Master Cleanse Diet

Master Cleanse Lemonade Diet

The Master Cleanse Diet is also known as the "maple syrup diet" or the "lemonade diet". The exact origin of the diet is unknown, but the recipe has been circulated widely on the Internet. The diet has regained popularity in recent years, after it was publicized that singer/actress Beyone Knowles used the Master Cleanse Diet to prepare for her role in Dream Girls.

The intent of the diet is to purify the digestive system of toxins and waste build-up. Due to its low-calorie nature, the Master Cleanse Diet can also result in significant weight loss, although the results can be short term. The master cleanse diet recipe consists of: Maple Syrup Grade B, Lemon Juice, Cayenne Pepper and water. Each serving contains 10 oz glass of water, the juice from 1/2 of a lemon, 1-2 tablespoons of Maple Syrup and 1/8 tsp. of Cayenne Pepper.

There are a number of variations to the diet, but the standard diet suggests drinking six 10-ounce servings of the recipe per day, adding orange juice after the second day, fresh fruit for breakfast and a vegetable salad for dinner. Some variations include chicken broth in the evening. The diet is not intended to be followed for more than 7-10 days. After that, it is recommended that solid food be reintroduced on a gradual basis, starting with bland easy-to-digest foods such as yogurt, oatmeal and chicken.

Actual User Comments

"Hi there! Yes, I've tried the Master Cleanser (that's what it's called). I did it for seven days before vacation - - the diet is basically known as a cleanser.....it did not work for me - my metabolism is horrible." user comment on weight-loss-forums.com
"I lasted 6 and a half days on only the lemon water with pepper, but by the last day I had very little energy and it did not feel healthy ... it was not a good replacement for a healthy diet and exercise for sustained weight loss." user comment on weight-loss-forums.com
"I tried this years ago, when I was a teen and wanted to lose a few before prom, and it sucked big time. It actually doesn't taste bad (tastes like lemonade with a kick), but I was friggin starving. My stomach felt like it was eating it's way from the inside out. I did lose 8 pounds but I gained it back over the course of one week. NOT healthy!" user comment on authenticforum.com
"Firstly, if you have issues with eating, this is obviously not going to help long term. It teaches you nothing about healthy portion control, is quite anti-social, and removes the pleasure you get from food. The first few days are quite exhausting also...I lost 10 pounds in ten days on this diet. All water weight? Maybe. But it is now a month later and NONE of that weight has come back, in fact I have lost a further 4 pounds. user comment on 3fatchicks.com
"I felt clean, light and healthy. My hair was shiny, my nails were strong, I got back in to exercising, and my skin was spot-free for the first time since childhood. I am not claiming that Master Cleanse is a potential solution to obesity. I'm just saying that, for someone like me, who was a bit out of shape and feeling unhealthy and unmotivated, it worked wonders." user comment on 3fatchicks.com
Editor's note: While the Master Cleanse Diet appears to be effective for weight loss, it can also have negative health consequences for its users. It is not a recommended method for long-term weight loss.

For those who are curious and choose to try the Master Cleanse Diet, it may be a good idea to consult one of the "user guides" that have been written by past users of this diet. One such user guide can be found at a site called Master Cleanse Secrets.
